what charity gives handicapped vans to people in need. My mother had a stroke, uses a wheelchair and needs van?

Question by Judy: what charity gives handicapped vans to people in need. My mother had a stroke, uses a wheelchair and needs van?
It is getting more and more difficult to transfer my mother into the car when I take her to the Doctor. She is paralyzed on the left side and when I lift and transfer her into the car she can not see the car seat because of the stroke and it scares her then she starts to have a panic attack which makes it harder to transfer her into the car. I must have a van with a wheelchair ramp because transferring my mother in the car is a fall risk for us both . Please Help. Judy

Some one asked me this question last week and I looked on the internet and found several sites, but I didn’t get the feeling that they would give anything. Have you checked the medicare. One other way I’ve noticed with handicapped vans is the plymouth, they have are close to the ground and have a ramp up into the van. I hope you find any answer and hope someone else gives you some answers too. Its tough. God Bless

I was driving the library van when we stopped in for lunch at McDonalds. I found out the next day that someone called the city and reported me as parking in a Handicapped spot! AS IF!I went back today and took pictures. That blue line is to keep vehicles from parking to close to the sidewalk! As you can see in the photo, the blue markings extend all along the side of the McDonalds!

Does anyone know the purpose of the metal plates with the bumps in the handicapped sidewalk ramps?

Question by acircle@ymail.com: Does anyone know the purpose of the metal plates with the bumps in the handicapped sidewalk ramps?
In the handicapped ramps on the sidewalks there are these large metal plates with raised bumps. What are they for? It actually makes it harder to get wheels over. Why are they there??

They’re for traction, so they dont slip and slide all over the place.

Why are more businesses not ‘Handicapped friendly’?

I have Multiple Sclerosis and when I’m out in public I usually have to use my wheelchair.
I went to a pizza parlor a couple of months ago because my daughters soccer team was celebrating their winning season and the restaurant didn’t have any way for me to get up to the area where my daughter’s soccer team was. I am QUITE CERTAIN that my daughter was kind of embarrased about the entire situation (as was I!) since some of the restaurant employees had to pick up my wheelchair so I could sit up where the celebration was being held!

What was the TV movie, about the 3 handicapped guys who wrote a letter together?

It was a long time ago, and they were institutionalized, severely handicapped, but together they were able to type out a letter to someone. I don’t remember what they letter was for, maybe to improve conditions or something. What was the movie and what was the plot? I believe it was a true story.

Are there grant monies to purchase a handicapped van for my son?

Hello, my son has Spastic Quadlapledic Cerebral Palsy and we are in desperate need for a handicapped van. I’ve done a lot of research and the Dodge Sprinter is the most adaptive for our needs now and later. My son is four and is bound to a wheel chair and also has other equipment for his physical therapy. I don’t make much that much money and we are hoping to get this need met, we live in NC. Thanks.

How do you build up self esteem of handicapped children?

I have a 2 1/2 year old handicapped little girl who is truly beautiful but she suffered a very severe head injury. She is starting school soon and I want to help to continue building up her self esteem. any ideas? She starts preschool in August. Thank you!
She suffered a closed head injury in which a portion of her brain was removed and she suffered a stroke. Her right bone flap was removed to relieve pressure off of her brain and she wears a helmet to protect what is left of her brain and she has a left sided weakness of her extremities-(i.e. her arm and leg). Obivously she has developmental delays due to a substantial portion of her brain. There fore.. that is your answer which I don’t understand what the EXACT disabilities have to do with building self esteem.
